About Echo

Echo, the iconic other in the Narcissistic dyad, was condemned to love Narcissus although he was incapable of returing affection. Eventually Echo faded away and all that was left were scraps of her voice. The Echos in a narcissistic dyad are the victims who struggle to maintian their own identity in the relationship

Narcisissm has become an increasingly prevelant phenomenon in our culture and has recieved a great deal of attention. Unlike Narcissus, Echo is all too often unseen and unheard.Yet, it is not uncommon for Echo to be sitting across from us in our offices. This conference focuses entirely on Echo in therapy.

Bio: Rokell Learner

In addition to maintaining her own therapy practice, Rokelle Lerner teaches and lectures worldwide, bringing her sharp acumen, wonderful sense of humor, clear and original thinking, and deep commitment to human growth  and  development to both professional and lay audiences. Her major professional focus has been relational and family systems, and the personal struggles of the individuals within those systems.

Ms. Lerner’s well established place within the professional psychotherapeutic community as an expert on interpersonal systems is complemented by her prominence in bringing complex relationship issues to the public consciousness. Ms. Lerner has received numerous awards for her work with children and families including Esquire Magazine's "Top 100 Women in the U.S. Who Are Changing the Nation." She has appeared as a guest consultant on numerous television shows such as Oprah, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News and 20/20. Her articles and interviews have been featured in the Washington Post, New York Times, Newsweek, Time, People Magazine and Parents Magazine.

Ms. Lerner’s professional work includes her writing, a busy lecture schedule, programs she runs at various organizations in the United States and abroad, and consultation to national and international governments, hospitals, schools, corporations, and therapeutic programs. Within the professional psychotherapeutic community, her work is recognized as making an important contribution to understanding and helping people deal with difficult families and relationships. The conference “Echo, Echo” being offered in May offers an opportunity for clinicians to hear this pioneer as she develops the theme of how best to work with the ‘other’ to the narcissist. It is a natural follow-up to her latest book:  The Object of My Affection Is in My Reflection: Narcissists and Their Relationships.
